Transition Year Activity Day

Our aim at Bike Park Ireland is to introduce students to the exciting world of mountain biking and teach them essential mountain biking skills that will stand to them for life.

We run a fantastic Transition Year day, providing students and staff with an action-packed day out that’s full of activities, education, thrills and fun. Cycling is the fastest growing sport in Ireland and we believe that knowing how to ride a bike properly is a skill that everyone should have the chance to learn correctly.

On a weekly basis Bike Park Ireland is bustling with mountain bikers from kids to adults, beginners to pros. A lot of us may think it’s as simple as hopping up on a bike and heading off, but there’s so much more to it than that, (after all - when you go skiing, you wouldn’t just hit the slopes without a lesson or two first!). It makes such a difference to know the correct body, head & foot positioning, balance, co-ordination, control and how to use the brakes properly.

Our mountain biking instructors are highly trained & experienced and give each student time to enhance their skills, whether they are complete beginners or experienced. Not only will a trip here also increase relationships between classmates but students will discover hidden talents & strengths about themselves, while enjoying the complete escapism of the great outdoors.

Teachers (up to 3) – for no extra charge, we’ll kit you out too with a full suspension bike, helmet & pads, show you the map, and while we continue with our TY programme with the students, you can hit the trails and explore the Bike Park yourselves and enjoy your day! Or relax in the cafe and soak up the view and atmosphere.

These activities will help students discover the following correct essential mountain biking skills;

Activity 1:       Skills Course – Body & foot positioning and braking.

Activity 2:       Pump Track – Balance, co-ordination, cornering and control.

Activity 3:       Practical workshop – Fixing punctures & general bike maintenance.

Activity 4:       Truck & trails – Students will be brought to the top of the trails in the army truck & will practice skills at the top before cycling down through the picturesque Green trail.
